Copco 4- to 8-Cup Polished Stainless Steel Stovetop Percolator, 1.5 Quart

Product Description

Copco Polished stainless stove top percolator. 4-8 cup capacity. Dripless spout and dishwasher safe with easy to clean stainless steel filter basket.

Amazon.com Review

Percolated coffee is an acquired taste, but for those who like it strong and black, this stovetop coffee pot is the way to go. The percolator's polished stainless steel exterior and stepped base give it a vintage look and its brewing methods are strictly old school; however, its construction is completely up to date. Water pours into the bottom of the pot and the pump tube with the filter basket goes in next. Coffee drinkers add their grinds to the filter basket and then place the cover over the basket. Once the lid is tightly secured, the percolator can be put on a gas or electric heat source for brewing. When the water boils, it travels up the pump tube and through the grounds and the familiar sloshing of brown liquid in the lid's transparent plastic knob signifies that percolation has begun. After about 5 to 7 minutes of percolating, coffee is ready for drinking. This pot brews about 4 to 8 cups of coffee and a handy water level indicator etched into the side ensures that brewers add the appropriate amount of water for their grinds. For safety, the plastic handle stays cool over a hot burner and the spout provides dripless pouring. --Cristina Vaamonde

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Coffee Percolator, December 24, 2007

This is a great little coffee percolator, especially for the inexpensive price. For one person it makes more than I need, since the full "8 cups" comes out to about 4 normal mugs full.

I used the original plastic top for the first use, and it didn't seem to get too hot at all. Some mentioned the top melting in other reviews. Once the pot reaches a boil turn the heat down to medium, since it will still percolate there's no reason to boil on a red hot "high" burner (which may have caused the melting they mentioned).

Just in case I also purchased the replacement glass top (B0000CFM6K) advertised with the percolator here. It attached nice and tight, and works great too. I'm sure the inexpensive glass replacement top will last as long as the coffee pot.

Another great thing I noticed was that when I wet the basket, as recommended, before loading the coffee grinds no grinds ended up in the coffee at all. I thought there would be, but no grinds in any... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes the BEST Tasting Coffee!, March 16, 2007
This review is from: Copco 4- to 8-Cup Polished Stainless Steel Stovetop Percolator, 1.5 Quart (Kitchen)
We tend to have a lot of power outages in the winter, [we have a gas range] and we bought this coffee maker for that reason. We found the coffee so incredibly good, that we deep-sixed our electric coffee maker [an over-priced Cuisinart] and we now use the stove top percolator every day. What a difference between the two! Compared to the stove top, the Cuisinart made brown water! The stove top makes coffee like my grandmother use to make...coffee that tastes like coffee should!

Every coffee lover should try this percolator.....you'll never go back to the automatics!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but too narrow for most stoves, December 11, 2007

Percolators really are a forgotten gem. With good coffee, nothing beats them for good coffee at low cost. In a small kitchen, nothing is as space-efficient as a stovetop unit. This model is good, as far as it goes. It is attractive and works well, although I would prefer that the basket and base were a bit wider. As others have commented, the plastic dome really is an inexcusable shortcoming. Even with careful use, it will fail after a year or so. The inner surface etches to a white color. The threads strip. And the bottom edge may distort (apparently steam is hot enough to melt the plastic. ) They could have provided a glass dome for about 50 cents more and made a much better product. You can get a glass replacement, but with delivery it'll cost you nearly 8 bucks. Another shortcoming others have noted is the scrapingly sharp edges of the top and spout. They do seem to get smoother with use, however. One problem with this model is that the base is too narrow for all electric and many... Read more

Thermos Nissan 34-Ounce Vacuum Insulated Stainless-Steel Gourmet Coffee Press

Product Description

Stainless steel coffee press

Amazon.com Review

Don't confine the pleasure of pressed coffee to home. With this combination of coffee press and vacuum-insulated thermos, European-style coffee turns up at the office or campground and stays hot three times longer than coffee made in a glass press. Simply spoon in ground coffee, add boiling water, place the lid on with plunger in the up position, wait four minutes, push down the plunger slowly, and . . . Presto! Fresh, piping-hot coffee for two or three hours. Lightweight and virtually unbreakable, the press has a handsome, satin-finish exterior and tough, nonslip, black plastic top and bottom. The press parts and smooth interior clean with sponge or cloth. --Fred Brack

  • Five-year warranty against defects.
  • Hand wash with mild detergent
  • Steel-mesh screen is replaceable

5.0 out of 5 stars I've had one for years, May 17, 2000

I've had one of these press pots and have used it for about 5 years. The description says it keeps coffee warm for hours. This is not quite right. It will keep it drinkable for an hour (the press pot is not double hulled like nissan thermouses). I transfer mine directly after pressing into a nissan thermous. My press pot has been used daily and it is as good as new. I don't under stand why people buy the glass one press pots. This nissan will last forever! The mesh screen does get worn, but mine is not so bad I'd replace it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this little coffee maker!, November 2, 2000
By

This review is from: Thermos Nissan 34-Ounce Vacuum Insulated Stainless-Steel Gourmet Coffee Press (Kitchen)
I drink my coffee stronger than average, okay, my husband calls it "Jet A" (the fuel used for jet engines) and I've never been happy with these automatic drip coffee makers. It came down to a professional espresso thousand dollar job or this little Nissan and I couldn't be happier with it and the 9 bills I saved buying it. While some say it doesn't keep coffee hot for very long, well how long does it take 2 people to drink 2 cups of coffee each? I just fill the pot with hot tap water while waiting for the kettle to boil and this keeps the coffee hot enough. Much better than that burnt taste of coffee left on a heating element.

I bought this coffee press about two years ago and I love it. Makes a great cup of coffee. Easy to clean, usually I hand wash it but about once a week I toss it in the dishwasher. (They say to hand wash it only, but it seems to do fine in the dishwasher.)

I find that it keeps coffee warm enough for a couple of hours. Maybe not as fun as the see-through glass coffee presses but I like the extra insulation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Melitta Manual Coffee Maker, February 18, 2008
This review is from: Melitta Porcelain Gourmet 6 Cup Coffeemaker, (Grocery)
I was brought up on Melitta drip coffee makers and that's all I've used so you might say I have more than 65 years of experience with these. We used to take them on vacations because the coffee we made so far out-distanced other available percolated or coffee-maker generated coffee. My only disappointment is that the purveyor of these for Amazon charges much more money for the set than does the Melitta site on the Internet. How did that happen? So far I've always found Amazon to have the best prices for everything I purchased online.

I had been using the manual plastic cone filter holder for many users and recently switched to the porcelain. There is a huge improvement in the taste, probably because the porcelain conducts heat better. It's also convenient to be able to put the cap on the carafe when the brewing is finished. The coffee stays warm for about 60 minutes or so.

Two complaints: the #4 filters are a bit too small; in some ways, the #6 filters work better. Also, there is only one hole, so brewing can be a bit slow sometimes, and there is occasional clogging which requires my adjusting the filter a bit.

But it does produce the best coffee I've ever had at home, a coffeehouse, or a restaurant. With coffee, lo-tech and old-school is the best way to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vintage coffee brewing, September 4, 2007
This review is from: Melitta Porcelain Gourmet 6 Cup Coffeemaker, (Grocery)
I had my original white porcelain coffee pot for over 30 years. I accidently broke the lid to it this morning. I have tried the grind and brew coffee makers and other electric type brewing, but I continue to return to my porcelain melitta coffee pot. That's why I'm buying a new one tonight. Coffee brewed in this porcelain maual coffee maker tastes fresher and richer. I'm a busy, working woman and it doesn't take anytime to brew. I highly recommend this porcelain coffee maker.
